A | coffee table is a must have! There`s no ways about it. They are fun to play with and prove to be one of the most practical pieces of furniture in any home. I love to change the look of mine on a regular basis... I would say monthly, to help refresh the |
look of my living room. And I'm hoping to share with you how I "dress" mine in many different ways (in upcoming posts), as I get on with blogging...
So, here are my tips on how and what I like to display, on my own coffee table:
|
To start, you of course need the right coffee table.
Whether it`s Modern, Hollywood Regency or Eclectic looking, you should choose the one that best suits your personal taste.
- Than the rule number one for dressing a coffee table is,
- the clever use of the right accessories to achieve DIFFERENT HEIGHT LEVELS.
(As seen on the photo above). You should always have at least, one item that is taller than the rest!
- Also when styling mine, my all time favorite accessories to use are, FAMILY PHOTOS in stylish photo frames,
- (they add a personal touch to the room).
- I also tend to use FLOWERS. When fresh, they release a lovely scent and freshen the room.
Although fresh flowers can be quite expensive to buy on a weekly basis, so I often switch with some nice looking faux ones... or,
...INEXPENSIVE HOUSEPLANTS, which are another favorite to use since
they always add life & exuberance to a room!
- BOOKS are also something else that I like to use.
They reveal the likes and interests of the homeowner and are perfect, for resting other things on top.
And I like to use them too, so I can keep my guests entertained, since they are fun for flipping through.
And they also make for inexpensive stylish decor.
- CANDLES for the obvious reasons! For their beautiful scent and to give my living room a cozy and homely feel!
I don`t mind paying that little bit more, for candles that are also pretty to look at...
That way it feels that you are getting more for your money. They smell and look great too!
- TRAYS they add a layering element and are great fun to play with also!
And usually they serve a great purpose of gathering small objects in one place,
so they don`t look lost and helps your coffee table from looking too messy!
And, I also like to combine old with new...
...And to use gold with silver accessories -
because its the style that I have going on, in every room in my home!
- Try to match the colour scheme of your room with your chosen coffee table accessories.
On the photo below, you can (just about see) that I choose a pretty blue vintage dish to match my velvet blue cushions and the
red accessories, goes with my red sofa, (which is on the opposite wall).

And on the photo above, again I tried to match my candle and photo frame with the black and white stripped Paoletti cushion...
- And last but not least, do try to include something a bit quirky. It sparks a talking point and adds fun, interest and personality.

These objects are often the final touch that you need to complete the look.
On the photo below, I decided to display my (new) candle Buddha head.

And here, this quirky vintage made of brass Pharaoh lady.
So here you have it, my tips on how to style a coffee table.
But the most important tip of all is:
A COFFEE TABLE - is a reflection of you or which mood you might be in, when you are styling it...
(just like every room in your home). So go ahead, have fun and make it personal!
My apologies for some of the dark photos, that were taken in the month of December. As I explained it here.
Anyway, thanks for your visit! I always appreciate it, a lot.
And also, sorry for the lack of posts of late, I`ve been busy adding the last touches to our dining room...
- which I hope to share very soon!
