of-a-kind rooms, reject "matchy matchy" furnishings and still arrangements. And the best thing about it, is that any type of furniture can be used and the same goes for accessories. Although to make it all blend together in pleasing harmony, it`s not as easy as it seems. It demands, some design sense, creativity and confidence. "You must dare to be different."
|
Also, it`s a combination of any number of styles and periods, and for this reason alone, (in my opinion) is the more interesting than any one style. |
It`s about respecting the house and do-it-up the way it was done originally... but, with things that can be removed and exchanged for something else without having to completely re-do "the room"...
It should just blend effortlessly!

Change is a key factor in this welcoming home decorating style. Ex: Against the rooms backdrops (the walls), the art, accents and furnishings are on the move, shifting positions easily and beautifully, without upsetting a scheme.
The eclectic motto is:
"Live your art -
expect the unexpected in
unlikely places."

It`s about the great need to make it your own - It`s the doing it, that is so special and (I love it). It`s also about easy living style! Comfort and harmony being the main priorities. Also it`s the perfect style to choose if you intend to decorate on a shoestring budget - (which is another big plus for me)! Since being creative and do-it-yourself are my thing! Although as easy as it sounds and looks - it requires confidence in combining "the right design elements" for being able to bring great impact and personality to a room!
So, here are my tips, of how you can achieve this welcoming look into your home:
- You have to choose the right elements, that best interact / blend with one another, in order to avoid creating a "mess" (so to speak). So, do choose carefully regarding which items, will work best in a room. It isn`t a case of anything will do.
- To better display your favorite furnishings and precious collections ( into an eclectic scheme), you should find a strong design pattern (on your curtains, sofa, wallpaper, rug...) or perhaps, use the colour that stands out the most of any of these elements.
- And to blend your favorite furnishings and beloved collections, into this scheme... try to find a "theme" such as in colour, pattern, or in the style of each piece, because each of these elements must be able to intricate somehow with each other, otherwise your room(s) will end up looking somewhat disconnected.
- It`s about being surrounded by things that "means you or who you are". Unique! And that`s the beauty of it.
- Also, it`s about risk taking! It might take a bit of trial and error, (at first) until you can make sure that`s just right. So again, it requires carefully planning and thought. I think you will know when that is... it`s when you will start to have that tingly butterfly feeling in your heart. That`s pretty exciting in itself, right? So keep experimenting - You might not get it right first time, but it`s worth trying again.
" And if in doubt take it out." That`s what I normally do myself!
- Regarding the use of colours it is important to take in consideration, which background colour (on your walls) will do the job best, in order to combine all the elements together. There`s no doubt, that a white or pale background, are the best choices for your walls. You should work with a few colours only, and repeat those colors through the room for a well balanced effect. It`s about "sticking" them together by combining different fabrics, textures, wall and floor art and ornaments too, in the same colour palettes for more of a cohesive look. The key, is to make sure that everything will blend together somewhat, without giving a matchy-matchy look.
(Please take time to study, the perfect example on the photos above and below).
- The same applies for an old and new mix. Let the patterns combine these two styles, to turn it into an Eclectic style.
- Another great tip, is to use contemporary patterned fabrics, to update older period furniture. Or vice, versa.
Use an old tapestry pillow to soften a modern looking chair.
- Also, if you are going to be using a rug or another major accessory, like a prized piece of art or an huge ornament... let the colours of any of these elements "do the talking," (so to speak) and choose accent fabrics and paints that reflect those colours.
- Have fun by mixing and matching different textures, that will make your room a welcoming place to be in.
- To be able to achieve this fun style... source pieces that aren`t widely available. And that are a real talking point. (Think auctions)!
- And lastly be adventurous, in creating bold accents against something unusual to the eye that will get people talking... where did you get that from? Who`s that by? I love it, I never seen anything like like it, before.... You get the idea. So, what do you think of this style of decorating? Is the eclectic style your thing? Do you love it as much as I do?
I hope that you enjoyed this post and will prove to be useful. See you again soon, decoristas!
But before you go, should we recap one more time, should we?
