Greener Living

H
i! After the reveal of my dining room... today, I thought to make a post about tips of how to use the colour green in your own home. Just in case you didn`t
know...the colour green is seen as the colour of youth and optimism. There`s no better colour that connects us to nature. The best way to think of the colour green and it`s "harmonizing" effect, is to think of green foliage around all these colours, that allow them to blend so well together. And that`s how you should imagine your room to be, when decorating. Hence the reason why I chose the colour green for my dining room. For me, green is another neutral backdrop colour. That complements with great success, any other colours that I`m hoping to use here, in the future.
"I like to road test and move my things around.
This could all look different - next week."

Although it`s not as easy as it sounds! You see, green can actually be a difficult colour to utilize... but when the colour brown is used alongside (as seen above - the photo of my own dining room) where, i`ve got lots of brown furniture.... the task is made easier! Since brown is green`s companion in nature, and it helps to tone down the intensity of the green shade. Another great example, see below.
MY DINING ROOM
"Here, the use of  boldness green hues, is well balanced by the -
elegant brown furniture and the plants centerpiece."
- Also, it`s the perfect colour to use in a bedroom,
because it`s a soothing colour, so it helps to provide a restful sleep.
- Green is also, the perfect colour to use with other colours.
But when using several several greens together... it is best to use light and dark tones of the same green.
- But, if you wish to use green in your own room decor, find the shade of green that is most appealing to you.
But don`t forget that green colours, can be mixed successfully.
- Although just because green is a cool colour,
it will not make a room feel cold - so long as there are some warm contrasts.
- The lighter greens feel most refreshing and full of positive energy,
just like new growth in Springtime.
- The colour green, is also suitable for a contemporary style room.
- When using right - by using the colour black, white and gold as a contrast,
it will tone the green hue down and in return, it will make a sophisticated setting!
- And for a more luxurious and zip feel, mix the bold hue with other jewel tones like,
ruby red, plum and sapphire.

(And old photo of my living room - taken 9 years ago).
- Also, energize this colour, by mixing it with bright yellows and oranges.

- Although if you are after a more calming feel to your room...
than pair this hue with neutral tones - to bring out it`s serene and soothing nature.
- Also, by throwing white into the mix,
it will soften the use of any colour green...
- And the two photos below are of great example, that a room can be instantly energized when paired with green.
Making the backdrop colour, instantly modernized.
- But please be aware that a flat matt green, will be more of a pea soup than an apple colour.
If that`s not the look that you are after... lift the green with a reflective glossy varnish or provide
shimmering accessories as in gold and brass to lighten the mood.

Enjoy decorating with accent colours
- If  you are not entirely sure, of how to use the colour in your walls or if it is the colour for you...
Green, the wonderfully versatile wall colour, is just as versatile used for furniture pieces and as an accent colour.
- You can also add colour to rooms in small amounts, to break up the design of a space, and to add interest.
"Accents in green can add a dash of colour to a room, yet mantain a calm feel to the space."
The colour green can show up in furnishings and window coverings, but also in smaller accents like art, chairs, pillows, lamps and vases (as seen on some of the photos shared on this post).
As you can see the versatility of the green makes it a colour, that can be universally appealing.
It`s luxurious. Calming. Relaxing. Energetic. And lively!
Which beautiful green hue, fits your design style?

And have any of these rooms... left you feeling green with envy?
And, doesn`t it look just as gorgeous when used as in fashion?
